The Welder

This Page contains the (sometimes rambling) thoughts of The Welder.
It may be on music, it may be on sport, it may be on politics, it may be on life.
Depends on the day and what's on The Welder's mind.

Sorely Missed, Never Forgotten.
An inspiration, like no other.

You are the weakest link.......... Goodbye.

It's been a long time coming (he should never have been given the role of Scotland football manager in the first place), but finally the worst manager in Scotland's football history has finally bit the bullet and woken up to the fact he was a Pile of Utter Pish.

Now if the SFA can get their heids oot their own arses for 5 seconds, they'll do Scotland a massive service (and the first half-decent decision they will have made in more years than I care to remember) and move heaven and earth to ensure they get Wee Gordy Strachan installed as the manager NOW.

THE ALaRM REFORM FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY / A THOUGHT FOR ALL ASPIRING MUSICIANS.

On the 28th October 2003, The ALaRM reformed for one night only.
Mike Peters, Eddie MacDonald, Dave Sharp and Nigel Twist stood side by side, shoulder to shoulder, on the same stage for the first time in over 12 years.
Filmed by VH1 for a January 2004 worldwide broadcast, the gig was held at a packed London Scala. The 60 minute set was a trip down memory lane for everyone who crammed into the venue for this very special gig...... and to sum it up in one word is easy........ Awesome. I'm just waiting to wake up and realise it 'twas all but a dream. So, was the gig the start of a new beginning or just final closure on the original ALaRM?
Either way, it was great to see so many old friends at the gig, all having a damn good pogo.
There's a lot of good new bands out there - if they could bottle the talent, passion, dedication, enthusiasm and downright brilliance of what is Mike Peters, and feed it to the upcoming bands of today, the music scene would be a much better place.
The ALaRM and Mike Peters may be known to a lot of people as an 80's band, but that my friends, is the opinions of the poor, misguided muso-hacks of today. Go see Mike Peters live - and come away a richer person musically.

GUN BREAKS WELDERS ANKLE.

Sitting here listening to GUN Shame On You. What a fucking great song. What a superb band live.
Album-wise, the first two (Taking On The World and Gallus (blinding title!)) were the best, Swagger and 0141 ..... were a bit disappointing, but live, they remained awesome throughout their career. Split in 97, but reformed in 1999 for a one-off gig @ Glasgow's SECC, for a Scotland For Kosovo benefit gig - also featuring Simple Minds, Deacon Blue, Midge Ure and Big Country to name just a few.
The GUN set was Pogo-tastic - so much so, the Welder broke his ankle pogoing to the opening bars of Crazy You (appropriate or what?), thought he had just twisted his ankle, pogoed for another 3 hours, partied for another 5 hours, then finally went to Casualty the next day when it became too sore, nay impossible to walk on......... almost 24 hours after pogoing, partying and hobbling on it, I became the proud owner of a stookie.
Just thought I'd share that story with the world.
They don't make Gallus bands like GUN anymore... or do they?......

POLITICIANS.......

Can you trust them?
I don't think so.
They lie, they cheat, they decieve, they colour the truth with what they want us to believe.
They promise much, fail to deliver even more.
They live in a world of spin, a world of make-believe, massaging figures and reports for their own gain and to decieve us into thinking things will get better and that they are doing things which will make life better for us all, and most importantly, they don't trust the public, so they tell us what they want us to hear, surpress the rest, and feed us with lies remainder of teh time.
But in the end, they all get found out. Are you listening Mr. Prime Minister ?

May 2003 - A God retires

After 3 seperate periods as manager of the great Glasgow Alternative, PARTICK THISTLE, the messiah and saviour that is known as JOHN LAMBIE, has hung up his managers hat. In his final year, the Great Lambie ensured Partick Thistle retained their SPL status, by finishing 10th in their first season back in the top league. No mean feat considering the budget and resources he had.

The Welder would like to take this opportunity to thank God (aka John Lambie) for his services to the club, and wish him every happiness in his well deserved retirement. No doubt, we will still see him at games, but he'll now be sitting in the posh seats (Directors Box) as opposed to giving merry hell to his players, the opposition players and the referee and linesmen.
