SAL - HISTORY

Sal are a refreshing four-piece, full of energy, melody and emotion, consisting of Catrin Southall (Vocals), Noog (Guitar), Marc Real (Bass), and Denley Slade (Drums). The band has been together since November 1998, with various line-up changes until only the best were chosen. To date, the band has enjoyed varying degrees of success, playing various concerts around South Wales and more recently some shows in London and across South England and Riverside Festival (Yorkshire) and Big Buzz Cardiff.

2000 saw them finish recording their EP with established producer Greg Haver (production credits include Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia, Super Furry Animals), and the accompanying video received numerous complimentary comments after being shown on Regional TV. An interview with a live acoustic performance soon followed on BBC TV's 'The Wrap' programme. Songs from the EP have also been featured on BBC TV's first series of the Pop Factory 'The Fizz'. SAL also appeared at the Radio One Live in Cardiff Fringe to a packed house (earning rave reviews), and also 'Livestock' where over 3000 people saw the band play at a BBC Music Live Week concert. The EP also achieved 'Record of the Week' status with various University Radio Stations and has continually gained favourable airplay.

2001 SAL released their first demo with new lead singer Catrin Southall in Spring 2001, that received rave reviews through the Welsh music press, and received regular airplay on numerous stations including Total Rock FM. During the summer of 2001 the band played as main support to such bands as Terris, The Crocketts and were main tour support to Dodgy on their Welsh leg of their British Tour. They also supported American band Fydolla Ho when they came to Cardiff in December (lead singer of Fydolla Ho 'Shawnee Smith' is a main star on CBS's Becker with Ted Danson). SAL were also nominated as one of the final 3 bands in the Best Unsigned Welsh Band section for the inaugural WRIT awards, which was then cancelled at the last minute.

2002 has seen SAL record the 'Perfect' EP which once again gained rave reviews in the Welsh Press, and regular airplay on numerous Welsh Radio Stations, including sessions for Radio Wales and S4C Television, plus appearances at both Riverside festival (Yorkshire) and The Big Buzz Cardiff Festival. At the end of 2002, SAL capped a year of progress and development by signing to Pogomotion.

2003 and the band continue to win new fans with every gig. The year is spent between writing and demoing tracks for the debut album, and playing gigs across the UK.

2004 starts with the band in the studio with Greg Haver (Manics, Catatonia, Super Furry Animals etc), recording the debut album. With mixing to be completed by Spring, expect a single by Summer 2004, coupled with intense touring and publicity work of the UK. Watch this proverbial space for more details .....
