| “Better
than the b**** that you’re with…”
Sal
is the new Welsh band phenomenon – simple as that. A
four-piece rock/punk outfit, they kick out with energetic,
emotional and incredibly catchy songs that still retain a
keen edge, forged in the valleys of South Wales.
The
songs look at life, the words deal in dreams, and the music
makes you care and not care, all at the same time.
Sal
have worked extensively with producer Greg Haver (Manic Street
Preachers, Catatonia, INME) to create a fresh, punky, infectious
sound that’s steadily built up a fan base since they
got together in 2001 - thanks to TV appearances, radio airplay,
numerous demos, UK tours, festivals and sheer hard work.
Fronted
by the gorgeous and ever-present Cat, with Noog on guitars,
Kev on bass and Denley on drums, Sal have shared stages with
the likes of Terris, Skindred, Reef, The Crockets, Dodgy,
Kennedy Soundtrack, Fydolla Ho, Bad Manners and even the mighty
Saxon!
The
band have toured the UK and played many festivals around England
and Wales, and have also had performances transmitted live
on TV and Radio.
Sal
have already released several demos to great responses from
Radio and media alike. The band have enjoyed frequent coverage
on many radio stations including BBC Radio Wales, Total Rock,
Valley's Radio, BridgeFM and have been awarded single of the
week status on numerous university radio stations. Plus their
videos have been featured on TV shows such as HTV's 'Shotgun
Slide Show, BBC TV's 'The Wrap', and the first series of the
Pop Factory "The Fizz".
“The
monkey army's now complete…”
This
year has seen Sal in the studio again with Greg Haver to record
their first album, which is due for release Autumn 2004. Provisionally
titled ‘Dysfunctional, it will consist of 13 tracks,
which highlight the power, depth and brilliance that is Sal.
Pre-releases
have received rave reviews and frequent airplay on national
radio.
Primed
for the big time, are Sal the latest Welsh Phenomenon?
Only
time will tell but what is certain, Sal are a refreshing rock/punk
four-piece, full of energy, melody and emotion, who are destined
for greater and bigger things.
“People
tend to dismiss female-fronted rock bands”, says lead
singer Cat. “We’re gonna make them eat their words.”
