Anthems For The Underdog
(Spank)
Debut
Album of misanthropic metal melodies.
Anthems For The Underdog launches straight into a furiously
hook-laden Ramones/Stiff Little Fingers three-chord thrash.
Track two does much the same. As do tracks 3 to 12. but despite
the relentless pace and predictability of a hare at the dog
track, the Brit-punks debut definitely has the tunes (SOS
and Call To Arms in particular) to make you grin like hounds
in pursuit. With former Yo-Yo Neil Phillips back on board
they've spent a year touring with The Wildhearts, and whicle
not quite matching those hoary pop-punk vetrenas, they've
clearly learnt some new tricks.

There
is a popular school of thought that suggests you should never
go back into a burning building. So seeing Neil Phillips return
to his old band after the break up of the Yo-Yo's, it would
be easy to suggest that this move was being made out of desperation
rather than a desire to set the world to rights. After all,
why leave in the first place?
But with 'Anthems For The Underdog' the B*Movie Heroes have
managed to deliver an album packed with sun kissed melodies
and jump-along anthems that have the power and the energy
to make these guys real heavyweights in the live arena.
Taking the balls-out determination and introspection of Hot
Water Music and meshing it with the feel good factor of the
likes of [spunge] or A, this is an album that chases the weekend,
questions the banality of everyday life, yet still remains
optimistic throughout it all. Well worth investing in.

Ed Woods new band. Actually, thats a lie.
ROCK 'N' roll is never happier than when it's biting and spitting,
but simultaneously flirting like a fresher. The perfectly
orchestrated collision of menace and melody isn't an easy
feat to achieve, but B*Movie Heroes have had a damn good shot
with their debut album.
Featuring former Yo-Yo Neil Phillips, the British four-piece
snarl and coo in equal measure on bittersweet anthems like
'The Drug' and 'Stuck Like Glue'. Later, the lads serve up
a double-jab that would make Lennox Lewis proud with 'Call
To Arms' and 'Say My Name'.
An intoxicating cocktail of Cheap Trick, The Wildhearts and
the Ramones, if the B*Movie Heroes were American, they'd be...
ahh to hell with it.

"Anthems For The Underdog"
Genre: Rock
Spank Records
The B*Movie Heroes have delivered thirteen uncompromising
rock anthems to sing along to on their album "Anthems
For The Underdog".
The band is a combination of the Backyard Babies sleaze and
guitars, and the hook and pure rock, sing-a-long factor of
the Wildhearts.
Songs such as "One Rung Up From Misery" and "Stuck
Like Glue" show the band's ability to write catchy songs
that come from the heart and that Joe Average can identify
with. Combine that attribute with the rhythmic rock guitaring,
furious bass pummelling and bombastic drums and you have the
perfect ingredients for this band.
In fact, the B*Movie Heroes are your current day rock preachers,
unloading songs that cover the entire spectrum of human qualities
and emotions.
Inspired by the things that are around them, the band has
its social commentary with a good dose of rock to boot. "The
Drug" is a good example of this with its addictive guitar
work and comments on people; there are two kinds of people:
good and bad, and don't be quick to judge or pigeonhole, is
the message behind that one. Not your typical rock sentiment
but surprisingly it works well and that is typical of the
type of song found on this album.
Standout tracks include, "Kid With a Temper" for
its pace and guitar, "Something Better Give (Or I'm Giving
In)" for its Hive's style start and foot tapping factor,
and "Time To Find" for the social statement.
Check out the B*Movie Heroes - you are guaranteed to find
something that will appeal, whether it be the rock playing,
which is top notch, or the lyrical content and social messages.

If
success was measured by pure enthusiasm and damn hard work
then B*Movie Heroes would already be at the top... A Rugged
concoction of hard, sleazy rock riffs and harmonious, mellifluous
vocals... A fluent satisfying 40 minute set which never compromised
or pulled any punches, either musically or aesthetically.
Old-fashioned grit and determination will be B*Movie Heroes
greatest ally in the laborious months and years to come. And
grit and determination is seemingly what they have in abundance.
So turn off your Blink 182 "kiddy rock" sit up and
take note. The B*Movie Heroes are here to rock you.
